This article sets out to explain the main aspects of the process of suspending a part of an existing building, a historical monument, to build under it two basements and integrate it in the new project on site.<\/p>\n

The development of new buildings in the confined space of downtown Bucharest often involves the construction near historical structures or even assimilating and highlighting them in new projects. This situation involves the elaboration of technical solutions that do not affect the integrity of buildings with historical value, assimilated or neighboring.<\/p>\n

The project presented consists in the suspension of a part of the historical structure to be able to realize an infrastructure that extends under the suspended area and a new multi-story structure, next to it. The technical solution of suspension consisted in the execution of a RC substructure under the historical monument, connected with tension rods to a laminated steel spatial structure which is supported on one side by a screen of tangent piles used for the excavation and on the second line by temporary piles. A monitoring system was designed, and a technological succession of operations was elaborated to ensure the integrity of the historical structure throughout the execution of the project.<\/p>\n

The implementation of the solution is not cheap or efficient in terms of execution schedules for any type of construction.
